Watson Outdoor Living handles land clearing in Springfield, Georgia. Springfield is the seat of Effingham County, and the courthouse stands on North Pine Street downtown. The ground around town is planted pine over sandy loam, so an idle lot fills in with scrub fast. Sweetgum and briars take an open pasture back in a few seasons. We cut that growth down with a CAT 265 track loader and a forestry mulcher head. Stumps and root balls come out with a CAT 308 excavator. CJ Watson runs both machines himself, so the person pricing your job is the person doing the work.
We recently ran a forestry mulching job in Springfield on two backyards that had grown over. Both yards went from heavy brush back to open ground. Mulching cuts the growth in place and leaves the chips down as a ground cover. On lots where you want bare dirt, we rake the debris out with the grapple and haul it off. Ebenezer Creek starts near town and runs east through cypress swamp, so low corners hold water after a rain. We work around the soft spots and keep the machine on ground that will carry it. Call or text (912) 712-6034 and CJ will come look at the lot.

Most of our Springfield jobs are on wooded lots and back acreage outside the city grid. We run north on Highway 119 toward Clyo and Stillwell, and southwest toward Guyton. The Ebenezer Road side runs toward Ebenezer Creek, where the ground turns to cypress bottom. Along Highway 21 we open house pads and driveways on new build lots.
Around the courthouse and Laurel Street the lots are small and close together. That is brush clearing work more than heavy clearing, done with the mulcher head on a tight line. Fence lines and ditch banks get cut clean back to the property line. Larger tracts get the full treatment, with stumps dug out and hauled off before any dirt work starts.
Most residential jobs in Springfield run one to two days. A half acre backyard that has grown over is usually a single day with the mulcher. Two or three acres of pine and scrub takes longer, and stumps add time on top of that. CJ gives you a timeline when he looks at the property, before any work is scheduled.
Weather sets the pace more than anything else in Effingham County. Sandy ground drains well, but the low corners near creek bottoms stay soft for days after heavy rain. We can usually mulch wet ground when digging would rut it up, since the track loader spreads its weight. When the job calls for excavation or grading, we wait for the ground to firm up first.
